My Youth
I grew up in a home with five siblings of which I was the third child. I was born on the sunny Caribbean Island of Aruba. As a child, I loved teaching. I grew up in two churches. As a young teenager, I went to the Methodist Church in the morning where I sang in the youth choir. I was also a member of the Girl’s Brigade. After service, I would teach Sunday school to younger kids. In the afternoon, I taught Sunday school to the younger kids at my aunt’s Baptist church. In the evening, I attended the service at my aunt’s church. I enjoyed every minute of it. I took part in many recitals and skits.
My parents never went to church with us. However, they were very strict and made sure that my siblings and I attended church and Sunday school every week.
New Ministry Direction
After I went on pension, I started spending more time surfing the internet and visiting Facebook and messenger. I became friends with a Christian lady who invited me to join her prayer room. There I met a Pastor from Nigeria, and I became very good friends with him and his family.
When the owner of the prayer room announced that she had to close the room due to personal reasons, the Pastor and I decided to start our own International prayer room. We have been doing so successfully now for the past three years. With God’s help, I make use of the opportunity as the Lead Admin to teach as much as possible in our prayer room. Based on my own experiences growing up, I try to teach our members about topics that I wished I had learned about when I was younger.
Ministry Service
A year ago, my Pastor friend, my youngest sister, and I came together and started a nonprofit international organization to help put smiles on people’s faces. We target issues that are close to our hearts. Those issues are widows, children and education, single mothers, mission upkeep, and missionaries, to name a few.
Along with our small but faithful group of supporters, we still manage, despite the hardship that was accentuated by the pandemic, to put smiles on the faces of a few people every month. It is our dream that one day we will be able to put smiles on the faces of many people all over the world.
Desire to Learn More
God has put this strong desire in me to hear, study, and go deeper into His Word. Most of my spiritual growth in the last few years came from spending quality time with my erudite Pastor friend from Nigeria. He is an exceptionally good teacher. He gave me a lot of food for thought, which in turn opened my appetite to learn even more.
I am also growing spiritually when I am spending time preparing lessons to teach in our prayer room. In 2020, I enjoyed the experience of reading the entire Bible in a year. This year I am listening to the Bible, one chapter at a time. I also follow teachings and Bible studies on YouTube.
Bible Education Program Online at CLI
I believe the Christian Leaders Institute training will help me to grow spiritually and deepen my walk with God. It will help me build my knowledge of the gospel and also be more confident when sharing the Bible. I don’t believe that I happened on the CLI website. I had been searching the internet for some time for free ministry teaching, without any results. So, I strongly believe that I was purposely led to CLI by the Holy Spirit.
I am pursuing a Ministry of Teaching and Intercession/Counseling. I strongly believe that a Bible education program is very important. So, the fact that CLI is an online Bible college makes it possible for anyone to have a high-quality Bible education.
Another benefit of CLI is that it’s online so you do not have to leave the comfort of your home or your family. You are also not restricted to a specific time of day.
On top of that, to be able to get the training totally free is an unbelievable opportunity for anyone. For me, it is an answered prayer, a challenge, and a motivation at the same time. As Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Answering God’s Call at CLI
God is calling me to step out on the water. But in order for me to do that, I have to get out of the boat. CLI is providing a way for me to get out of the boat. I am so thankful for the Christian Leaders Institute for providing me with this opportunity to get the Bible education program I need to do the ministry God has called me to do. I pray that the desire God has placed in my heart will
grow. I also pray that in my future ministry I will always seek to glorify our heavenly Father and will not seek my own gain.

Journey by Grace
My name is Kenneth Sherwin Chu. I currently live in the province of Capiz, Philippines. My journey by grace has brought me to the Christian Leaders Institute for ministry knowledge and training (Learn more about free online Bible courses, Click Here).
I am the second child among seven siblings. Mostly my mother raised us as my father was living away due to some unfortunate situation in his life. My mother is a tailor, and her income was not stable. This pushed my eldest sister and me to help out in any way we can. Life was tough, but, by God’s grace, we made it. We all graduated with a college degree.
My Amazing Journey
My college years are the most amazing part of my journey. I was a football (soccer) varsity which granted me a full scholarship. I took a part-time job for my allowance and helped my aunt to manage her boarding house in exchange for free boarding. In spite of this schedule, I still had the time to serve as a youth leader in our local church. If I recall those times, I can’t explain how it all fitted on my schedule, but one thing I know, God has blessed me the time and provided me with all my needs.
In my graduating year, we went on a field trip. On our way back home, we got into a shipwreck incident. It was very sudden when the ship hit a rock that created a hole on the starboard side. The words I said in my prayer, “God, whatever happens, take care of me.” After I said that, fear left, and slowly I had peace of mind. After a few more minutes, we needed to jump as the ship was about to sink. I stayed in the water for about 13 hours until a fishing boat spotted us. To some, it gave them trauma and afraid to travel by sea again. For me, it has been a testimony that God is always there to protect us. God carried me in those times, and I believed that He still had a purpose for me.
Move to Singapore
In 2010, I went to Singapore to work. There I met a couple, both pastors. They brought me to New Creation Church, where I found a home for six years. There, I got a better understanding of God’s grace, that everything has been paid by Jesus at the cross. Also, that I am deeply blessed and highly favored and already on the victorious ground.
Every December, the church had this prayer request time. You wrote down three major requests that you wanted to have answered in the coming year. In 2014, my first prayer was about my job, to have a restful increase. God granted me a new job with less work and higher pay. The best thing is it was just offered on a hot plate. And later that year, my previous company hired me back with more pay.
My second prayer was that my girlfriend would be able to transfer to Singapore so we can be together. God did not just grant my request but made us together under one roof as we married that year. Lastly, my third request was to have a house of my own. God blessed us with exceeding gifts during our wedding. We received extra money for in reservation. God is an awesome God! When He gives, it’s always more than what you ask for!
Ministry Knowledge and Training at CLI
Now back in the Philippines, I am serving as a deacon in our local church and helping to spread the good news. Sharing His grace, love, and His Word to all. My dream is to become a pastor involved in His ministry on a different level. Most especially, I want to know Him more deeply and be a living testimony of how good God is and that He is all we need. That is why I am studying at the Christian Leaders Institute for ministry knowledge and training.

Early Christian Influence
Born into a Buddhist family, I am Thai. I got to know Christ for the first time when I was 13 years old through my uncle. He was my first relative who converted to Christianity and evangelized and my older sister. He prayed for me, and I recovered from a 2-year chronic cough. So, my first impression of God was that I could ask Him anything through prayer. Then, I learned more about God from my uncle.
However, my parents feared my uncle brainwashed my sister and me. Consequently, they went against Christianity and kept us away from my uncle. As I was not deeply rooted in Christ, I grew up somewhat disconnected from God.
Reconnected to Christ
I reconnected with Christ again when I was a graduate student. I joined a case competition, where I reunited with my university classmate, a Christian. He had qualities that I admired and wanted to improve. So, I started hanging out with him to learn from him. At the same time, he evangelized me, gave me a Bible, and brought me to church and life groups. The Christian fellowship blew me away. The people were very kind and loving. That made me want to study the Bible more to understand what God, who changed those people, was like. As I learned more about Jesus Christ, I got baptized. Since then, I have studied the Bible, attended church, hung out with fellow Christians, and served at church on and off.
Recently, I re-evaluated my life and revisited my belief. I realize I have become a lukewarm Christian addicted to complacency. My character has not improved much, and the fruit of the Spirit is somehow absent. Plus, knowing that I was born blessed and have received much more than I give, I will not be able to answer God about what I do with the talents and time He gives me. As a result, I decide not to continue being a half-hearted Christian but to live my belief.
Christian Leadership Courses at CLI
I know I have potential that may benefit God’s kingdom. However, it was wasted because I did not know how to use my potential. I think other people may have this problem too. There should be some practical Christian guidance. Accordingly, I started searching for Christian leadership courses. I found the Christian Leaders Institute. I hope to learn valuable lessons about how Christians should live and minister to others.
My leadership goal is to figure out how to use what I have for God’s kingdom. I also have a passion for Thai Millenials. If they have a life purpose and vision and the capabilities that lead to confidence, they can shine their lights wherever they are. They can be a living Bible in the marketplace that brings people to Christ. This call is how I can accomplish God’s command to go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
