How to Become A Ordained Minister
How to Become A Ordained Minister is a process that includes prayerful discernment. This process includes:
- Ministry Training Courses
- Licensed or Ordained Clergy Recognition Process
- Commissioning
- Listing on a Clergy Directory
Most online ordinations are the purchase of documents that do not require completed classes, recommendations, confirmation, and commissioning. That is why states like Tennesee frown on these types of ordination. In June of 2019, Tennessee passed a law not permitting exclusively online ordinations. Currently, the law has been temporarily suspended. There is a growing recognition that a simple piece of paper does not make someone truly and duly ordained as a minister.
How to Become A Ordained Minister through a Local and Global Process
Christian Leader Institute training has free minister classes for ministry ordination. Here is how the ministry clergy ordination program works:
The ordination process of Christan Leaders Alliance is a life-changing process that will launch your ministry impact! You will take relevant classes by top-notch professors that will prepare you for ministry. Your competence will expand. With this training, you will become more effective in your ministry. Your confidence will grow.
As you become more effective in your ministry those to whom you minister will recognize your role in their life. Your credibility will be established.
How to Become A Ordained Minister with Christian Leaders Institute and Alliance means that you go through some steps for training and ordaining.
Step 1 – Recognize Your Calling to Ordained Ministry
God calls Christians to ministry – to serve. Ordained Christian leaders recognize a sense of God’s call in their lives to lead in their serving. So although others may call you a doctor, a homemaker, a businessman, a truck driver, a politician, a salesman or a teacher, you fundamentally see yourself as a potentially ordained Christian leader.
How to Become A Ordained Minister is of interest to many Christians who sense the ministry calling. What does an ordained clergy leader look like?
- A bi-vocational businessman who plants a house church
- A single mom ministering to other women
- A married couple called to start a house church
- A retired school teacher who is replanting a struggling church
- A volunteer, part-time, or full-time minister (worker) in a local church
- A person called to start a ministry
- A person with a disability called to ministry
- A person…
Therefore, in light of all this, have you felt the nudging of the Holy Spirit to lead in ministry? If so, God may be calling you to become ordained in ministry.
Here are some verses that that will help you discern in your call to ordained ministry. Is the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart through any or all of these verses?
Phillippians 1:6 …being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Phillippians 3:13-14 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Isiaah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
Are you ready to take step one by acknowledging your calling into ministry by saying, “Here I am, send me?”
Step 2 – Train at Christian Leaders Institute for Your Calling to Ordained Ministry
If you sense the calling to the ministry as a Christian leader, get free ministry training at Christian Leaders Institute. This training is your second step toward ordination. Christian Leaders Institute provides this training free of charge.
First, you will take the Entrance orientation class. After you complete this class in less than two hours, you will be enrolled in the Christian Leaders Connection Class (3 Credits). Then, you will need to take the Christian Basics Class (3 Credits).
Christian Leaders Connection (3 Credits)
This ministry training class connects you to a deeper walk with God, your ministry dream, and a mentor.
Christian Basics (3 Credits)
This ministry training class goes over the timeless Christian doctrines that are found in the Bible. This class taught by Dr. David Feddes utilizes the materials of Dr. Ed Roels. If you are highly knowledgeable in Christian teachings, there is a comprehensive test you can take to get the three credits immediately.
After you complete these classes, you receive the Christian Basics Award at Christian Leaders Institute. This award indicates that you completed enough studies to be ordained as a local deacon minister.
Step 3 – Join the Christian Leaders Alliance by taking the Deacon Minister Class (1 Credit)
You now have the opportunity to enroll in the Minister Ordination class. This ordination class is a Christian Leaders Alliance function through the Christian Leaders Institute. This Minister Ordination class is called the Deacon Minister class at Christian Leaders Institute. It will do the following:
- Give you more specific instructions about the Biblical office of an ordained deacon minister.
- Discuss the inclusion of women as deacon ministers in the early church. See CLA position on Women in Ministry
- Give you the opportunity to gather three recommendations from your community of faith. These recommendations give evidence that people acknowledge the calling on your life, your sincere walk with God, and your readiness to serve as an ordained leader.
Step 4 – Get Ordained as a Deacon Minister.
Next, it is time for getting ordained as a minister. To get ordained, you must participate in an ordination ceremony at your local ministry or church and/or through the Christian Leaders Alliance (see Ordination Structure).
Step 5 – Get Commissioned into Ordained Minister Roles
After your ordination as a Minister, do you want to go further in your training? Maybe there is a specific area of ministry to which you are called.

You are welcome to take specialized Minister Role Classes. However, there is no need for you to be ordained again. You already are ordained. Now you will be considered an ordained minister in a specific area. You will be able to order updated official credentials if you want them.

You may say this was a lot of effort. You are right. The Bible says that we should not be hasty in the laying on of hands.
Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure. 1 Timothy 5:22
Many people are ordering their ordination certificates online. This hasty manner of ordination is less credible. Read Online Ordination Scams.
Remember, Christian Leaders Institute classes are free! This way Christian leaders will receive their clergy ordination with high-quality training that will prepare them for ministry. This clergy ordination designation is legal in the United States and most of the world.
Kurt Van Drie of Fernandina Beach, Florida, sees the benefit of a valid clergy ordination for his ministry. He writes,
An Ordained Officiant designation along with the Ordination to Ministry will be beneficial as my wife and I carry out our ministry to parks, beaches and campgrounds. Since these will be in many states, the “Letter in Good Standing” will help should we encounter Christian couples who are looking to get married. God has opened SO MANY doors and Christian Leaders Institute is a tool He is using in His work with so many graduates! God is good – always!
If you are serving the Lord in your local community and you need clergy ordination, this free ministry training program may be right for you.
