Called to be a Christian Leader

Called to Be a Christian Leader

My name is Jim Oostdyk, and I am called to be a Christian leader. I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have a Bachelor of Science in Management from Cornerstone University and an Associate in Science degree in computer programming from Davenport University.

My Faith Journey

I’m the oldest of three boys. I came to know the Lord at an early age by way of my parent’s Christian teaching. Their daily example of praying and reading the Bible aloud at every meal, as well as regular attendance at church and Christian school, were a considerable influence. For as long as I can remember, I have loved the Lord and known that He loves me. I know that when I pray, He hears and responds.

One summer day, when I was 16 years old, I heard Reverend Ben Kinchlow on TV. Rev. Ben talked about the importance of making a conscious decision. Then, one should follow it with a prayer in a moment to be remembered of accepting God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Suddenly, I realized that I had never asked God to forgive me and save me through the gift of His son Jesus. So, I knelt and prayed along with Ben as he led the prayer on TV. Right then, I knew in my heart that God forgave me and made me His child!  Later, I was baptized and publicly proclaimed Jesus as my Lord and Savior.

My Spiritual Dream and Free Ministry Training at CLI

My spiritual dream is to walk humbly with God and be filled with the Holy Spirit daily. I want to be salt and light to the world.

Christian Leaders Institute is a real blessing as I don’t have the time or money to attend a traditional Bible school or seminary. I want to use my Christian Leaders Institute training to be equipped for His service. Also, it has encouraged me to strengthen my relationship with God and to help others in their walk with God. I desire to be a more effective Christian leader at home, at church, and in my community. I am to be obedient and useful to the Lord to reach others for His kingdom.

Excited to start this journey, I am thankful for the opportunity to learn in this manner at CLI!
