Ministry Jobs

Ministry jobs are getting harder and harder to come by! Do you have a calling by God and still need to provide for your family? Do you want to connect your work and your ministry? There are many ways to connect work and ministry.

Many of the ministry jobs are located with denominational or large non-denominational churches. They often require Master’s degrees in ministry areas.

Christian Leaders Institute is excited to make this MinistryBiz program available for people who want basic ministry training. They also want to get busy without worrying about getting one of those rare ministry jobs that do not fit their calling and educational situation.

The fact is bi-vocational Christian leaders launched early Christianity. Bi-vocational means that they worked and ministered in their communities. The idea of ministry jobs was not on the minds of the early church leaders. The disciples, for instance, provided for their families by fishing while also serving with Jesus. Jesus called them and told them that they would also be fishers of men.

Mark 1:16-17   As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

They left their nets and followed Jesus. But they went back to their nets to fish throughout the ministry of Jesus. Even toward the end of Jesus’ ministry, the disciples were fishing. Their ministry job was the ministry and business combined.

John 21:3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

The Apostle Paul also connected work and ministry. His ministry jobs were both making tents and being a missionary of the gospel. We see him on a missionary journey in the city of Corinth.

Acts 18:1-3    After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them,  and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them.

The early church is filled with examples of people who supported themselves in their work but still filled ministry roles. These ministry jobs combined pattern was evident from the very rich in the empire to the very poor and slaves. Christianity spread among the rich and poor alike, among the free and the slaves.

Christian Leaders Institute offers ministry training and enterprise training that combines ministry with business. We call this MinistryBiz. This is a new take on the term ministry jobs!
