MICHIGAN'S STATE LAW
In Michigan, the laws governing wedding officiants are defined under the Michigan Compiled Laws, specifically Section 551.7. According to this section, the following individuals are authorized to solemnize marriages in the state:
- Ordained ministers of the gospel: In state or out of state Individuals who have received ordination or appointment from a religious denomination, society, or sect and maintain regular communion with their religious organization. The program at Christian Leaders and Christian Leaders Alliance qualifies for this category.
- Judicial officials: This category includes judges of the United States, justices of the Supreme Court, judges of the Court of Appeals, judges of district, probate, and municipal courts, as well as judges of federal courts operating in Michigan.
- Magistrates and municipal judges: Officials appointed to preside over legal matters in their respective jurisdictions.
- Mayors and village council presidents: The mayors of cities and presidents of village councils are also authorized to officiate weddings.
- County clerks: In counties with over 2 million inhabitants, county clerks have the authority to solemnize marriages. Additionally, county clerks and their authorized deputies in counties with 750,000 or more inhabitants can perform marriage ceremonies and maintain records of such proceedings.
- Out-of-state judges or magistrates: A judge or magistrate from another state or a province of Canada who has been authorized to solemnize marriages under the laws of their respective jurisdiction can officiate weddings in Michigan. Step 1: Complete a Wedding Officiant Skill Course (1CDS credit)
This course takes between 2-5 hours to complete. You will become confident and competent at performing weddings. You will even learn the basics of pre-marriage counseling. You will acquire practical ministry skills, such as what happens when you meet with the couple getting married, how to conduct a rehearsal, and how to write a deliver a wedding message at the ceremony.
Step 2: Complete the Licensed Christian Wedding Officiant Recognition Course.
To be ordained through Christian Leaders Alliance (CLA), you must not only complete the wedding officiant skill course but also seek a local endorsement. Very much like how LinkedIn gives you the option to get endorsed in a professional skill, this endorsement recognizes your walk as a Christian and suitability to become a wedding officiant. This endorsement can come from anyone who knows you.
Step 3: Become Recognized as a Christian Wedding Officiant, and you may order any credentials you need.

To enroll in the program, follow these steps:
- Create a free study account with the Christian Leaders Institute and get familiar with the Study.christianleaders.org platform.
- Enroll in the Christian Wedding Officiant Skills course and commence your training.
- After completing the Skills course, you will enroll in the Licensed Christian Wedding Officiant Recognition Class. This class recognizes your online training and completes your ordination into a local geographic endorsement-based ordination credential. You will be listed in the Christian Leaders Alliance Directory, and you may order your ordination credentials. You are eligible to register a local ministry at a Soul Center.

To begin our degree program, you must first enroll as a student in our School of Christian Development. Every student starts by creating a study account at the Christian Development school.
