A Former Good Sinner
Hello, my name is Diomedes Sambas, from British Columbia, Canada. I am 61 years old. I am also a student of the Christian Leaders Institute for small group minister training (Learn more about free small group minister training and Bible courses online, Click Here).
My Spiritual Journey
My country of origin is the Philippines, but now I live in Canada. Both of my parents are Catholics, so I grew up as a Catholic. By that, I only go to church on my birthday and on some special occasions. Before I became a Christian, I considered myself a “good sinner” because if I counted the good that I did, it was more than the bad. I didn’t kill anyone or rob a bank. Also, I went to church sometimes and prayed before bed. But, I sometimes cursed, used bad language, and drank alcohol at night. However, I was so sure that I could save myself by doing fewer bad things and doing more good things.
I found out how wrong I was when I surrendered myself to Jesus and accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. It is by grace that I have been saved through faith. It is not by myself nor by good works so that I cannot boast. When I became a born-again Christian, it was not easy. There was a struggle within me. I even backslid for a few months. But thanks be to God, who guides me and brings me back to His love.
It all happened while I was working in Taiwan. So, when I went back home to the Philippines, I joined a local church in my wife’s hometown. There, I served in the men’s ministry for as long as I was with that Church.
Small Group Minister Training at CLI
When we moved to Canada, my plan was to attend church but not get involved in any ministry. However, one of our pastors talked to me and ask me if I wanted to be a Small Group Leader. I was going to say no, but then, I said yes. Now, I am the small group leader of Ezra, a small group in Jesus Rock of Ages Ministry, Surrey Campus. There are 14 adults and two youths in our small group. I am the one making the schedule and leading our Bible study.
I needed to be trained to become a better Small Group Leader. That is why I enrolled in the Christian Leaders Institute for free small group minister training. I know that God will guide me in my studies as I continue my journey at the Christian Leaders Institute.
